Non-actionfigure

Figure/ Articulation study

I love action figures, but many of them focus only on the appearance of the celebrity and less on the richness of the joints. I wanted to design one with more joints to make more natural movements.

I created this figure using Rhino and 3D printing. It was also designed to work with joints from known brands. This figure does not represent any stars, it is a system of joints. But with the help of 3D software, I hope to be able to apply my other designs to this figure in the future.

The primary material of this figure is SLA resin, a 3D print material that cures with UV light. This material has the potential to create precise and smooth detail. However, it has relatively lower durability, which may be vulnerable to friction and pressure within the joints. To solve this problem, I have to borrow from manufactured parts or use other materials to create the joints.

Luckily, plenty of manufactured joint kits are available on the market, and they are pretty popular in the scale model builder community. In this project, I used the ball joint kit produced by Hobbybase. It is made of PC, a smooth and semi-soft material, and is perfect for making joints. I measured the joints and create connecting points in my 3D model, making it easier to assembly after 3D printing.
